The old mansion is said to be haunted by the spirit of an elderly man, whose apparition is seen sitting in a rocking chair near the fireplace by employees and guests. Another spirit said to haunt the Jared Coffin House is that of a young Puritan woman whose apparition is said to harass unwed couples who stay in the same room together overnight, as well as the spirit of an unidentified young girl.
