The Oshkosh Northwestern Daily Newspaper building in Oshkosh, Wisconsin is rumored to be haunted. Employees report hearing the sounds of disembodied voices and footsteps, and feeling a strange presence, especially in the basement area. The Paine Art Center & Gardens in Oshkosh, Wisconsin was commissioned as a private mansion by a wealthy lumber tycoon named Nathan Paine in 1927, however construction halted in 1932 due to the Great Depression. Work resumed in 1946, however Nathan Paine died in 1947 and neither he nor his wife, Jessie Kimberly Paine, ever got to live in the mansion. It was dedicated as a public museum, with several acres of surrounding botanic gardens. Many visiting the Paine Art Center report hearing the sounds of disembodied voices and footsteps, and the sounds of furniture being moved around in the attic. Others report witnessing doors opening and closing by themselves, or experiencing other unexplained paranormal phenomena. The Grand Opera House in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (sometimes referred to as "The Grand Oshkosh Opera House") first opened in August of 1883. Many report witnessing spectral guests in empty seats during rehearsals and performances, and experiencing other unexplained paranormal phenomena such as doors opening and closing by themselves, and the sounds of disembodied voices and footsteps coming from empty areas. The New Moon Café in Oshkosh, Wisconsin was constructed in 1875 as the Beckwith House Hotel to replace an earlier hotel which had burned down in a fire. In 1880 another fire at the hotel killed several guests who are now rumored to haunt the location. Additional research for this allegedly haunted location is currently in progress.
