Lizzie Borden House Bed & Breakfast Museum
"The Lizzie Borden Axe Murder House"
Coordinates: 41.698928°, -71.156196°
Location Address: 230 2nd Street, Fall River, Massachusetts
On August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were found dead in their Fall River, Massachusetts house, leading to what later became one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in United States history. According to police reports, Andrew Borden was found dead in the downstairs sitting room after receiving eleven blows to the head with a sharp hatchet, and Mrs. Borden was found upstairs lying face down in a pool of blood. She was killed instantly after being hit in the head from the front with an axe and fell to the floor, at which point she was struck in the back of the head an additional seventeen times. Their daughter, Lizzie Borden, was put to trial for the two murders but was eventually acquitted on all charges. Despite popular misconceptions, Lizzie Borden was not immediately seen as a suspect in the murders, but she became a person of interest after giving several false and conflicting statements to the police. The Borden House was sold to a different owner after the murders, and eventually in 1996 the location was bought and opened as a tourist attraction called the Lizzie Borden House Bed & Breakfast. Guests staying at the Lizzie Borden House Bed & Breakfast often report encountering the spirit of an older man and woman, believed to be Mr. and Mrs. Borden. Others report hearing the disembodied sounds of a woman crying, as well as witnessing lights flickering, and electronic equipment being turned on and off by an unseen entity. Employees also report feeling a strange presence in the house, as well as experiencing sudden unexplained chills and cold spots. Sometimes also referred to as "The Lizzie Borden House Bed & Breakfast," "The Lizzie Borden House Museum," "The Lizzie Borden House Inn," "The Lizzie Borden House Hotel," or otherwise simply "The Lizzie Borden House."
