Church Hill Railway Tunnel
"Old Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Tunnel"

The Church Hill Railway Tunnel in Richmond, Virginia was constructed in 1873 as part of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. It is said to be haunted by the ghosts of a number of workers who were killed during its construction, as well as several other men who were killed on October 2, 1925 when the tunnel unexpectedly collapsed on a passing train. Due to safety concerns that the tunnel would further collapse, the train and all of its passengers were left buried beneath the tunnel, which was sealed off permanently the following year in 1926. Ever since, locals have reported hearing the disembodied sounds of screams and moans coming from the derelict tunnel, as well as the sounds of an old train whistle. Many also report witnessing apparitions and shadowy figures near the tunnel's entrance. Additional research for this allegedly haunted location is still in progress.

During its construction, archaeologists discovered the parkway was built over a number of ancient Native American villages and other historically significant sites dating back over 5,000 years. Motorists often report witnessing the apparitions of Native American men and women along the roadside holding torches, as well as hearing the unexplained sounds of tribal chanting and drumming late at night.
