Baker College Of Owosso
"Baker College"
Coordinates: 42.984574°, -84.172201°
Location Address: 1020 S. Washington Street, Owosso, Michigan
Baker College of Owosso in Owosso, Michigan was first established in 1945 as the Owosso Bible College. Its 70-acre campus consists of a mixture of newer classrooms and buildings, as well as several older historic buildings that were later incorporated as part of Baker College. Hoddy Residence Hall and Kurtz Residence Hall were once the site of the Owosso Sanitarium, which attempted to treat men and women with a variety of ailments using magnetized mineral water from a nearby spring. In 1855 a series of tunnels were constructed beneath the sanitarium to brew beer and wine, with steam from the underground machinery being used to heat a series of healing mineral baths above. The Owosso Sanitarium continued to attract men and women seeking treatment for illnesses such as arthritis, rheumatism, and tuberculosis until the nearby spring was depleted in 1910. Now students residing in Hoddy Hall and Kurtz Hall report experiencing a variety of unexplained paranormal activity, such as witnessing apparitions and shadow figures, or hearing the sounds of disembodied voices, footsteps, and laughter. Many residents also report experiencing frequent nightmares, and being scratched or otherwise physically attacked by an unseen entity while sleeping. Those exploring the underground tunnels beneath the two dormitories also claim to experience sudden cold spots, unexplained feelings of fear, and feelings of being watched by an unseen entity. One popular urban legend told by students claims that Baker College is haunted by the spirit of a female student who committed suicide, however these stories are widely disregarded as being fictional due to a lack of historic information about the alleged incident. Another rumor is that Baker College of Owosso was constructed over the site of an ancient Native American burial ground, which many believe may be the reason for some of the alleged paranormal phenomena students claim to experience.
