Michigan School For The Blind
"Michigan Female College"
Coordinates: 42.747582°, -84.562086°
Location Address: 715 W. Willow Street, Lansing, Michigan
Michigan School For the Blind in Lansing, Michigan was constructed in 1858 by a woman named Abigail Rogers as the Michigan Female College. The college was closed in 1869 and later renovated for use as the Michigan School For the Blind in 1879. The school remained open until the mid-1990's, and in 2018 the two buildings began renovations for use as a senior housing facility called The Abigail Senior Apartments, and a school called The Mid Michigan Public School Academy. Both of the old buildings are said to be haunted by a malevolent, spiteful ghost who is believed to be responsible for a variety of paranormal phenomena such as mysterious disembodied footsteps, voices, and sounds, as well as overwhelming feelings of being watched or followed by an unseen entity. Many locals have also noted that during the twenty-year period when the Michigan School For the Blind sat abandoned many homeless people attempted to take up residence in the old buildings, however they always seemed to be driven away by something. Although the identity of the spirit haunting the old Michigan School For the Blind is unable to be confirmed, many believe that it could be the ghost of the school's original founder, Abigail Rogers, who some speculate may have become infuriated when the school she built was shut down. The Michigan School For the Blind was added to the National Register of Historic Places in July of 2018.
