Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery
"Peckerwood Hill Cemetery"

Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery in Huntsville was established during the 1850's by the Texas state prison system as a burial ground for former death row inmates, and other prisoners who were unable to afford a proper funeral or whose bodies were unclaimed by family. It is estimated that between 2,100 and 3,000 prisoners are buried at the cemetery, most of which are buried in unmarked graves, or with headstones displaying only the prisoner's identification number. Visitors at the location often report witnessing apparitions, and experiencing other unexplained paranormal phenomena. The Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery is sometimes also referred to by the nickname, "Peckerwood Hill," or otherwise simply as "Prison Cemetery." Huntsville State Park
"The Huntsville State Park Ghost Alligator"

Huntsville State Park is a 2,083-acre state park located in Huntsville, Texas, within the Sam Houston National Forest. Construction on the park began in the mid-1930s, and it finally opened to the public in May of 1956. Hikers and other visitors at the park often report encountering apparitions, including the apparition of a mysterious, phantom alligator. Many campers also report witnessing a pair of glowing red eyes watching from the woods at night, or hearing the sounds of disembodied growls. Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas was established in 1879, and is believed to be haunted by a number of spirits and apparitions throughout it's 272-acre campus. Austin Hall was constructed in 1851 as Austin College, and is said to be haunted by the ghost of an unidentified woman who is allegedly seen wandering the hallways of the building's 3rd floor, or staring down at passersby from the windows above. Constructed between 1901 and 1902, the Peabody Memorial Library is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman wearing a long, black dress, believed to be a former professor or librarian who passed away. Students and faculty members at the Evans Complex also report hearing the sounds of disembodied voices, laughter, and applause. Several other locations at Sam Houston State University are also rumored to be haunted, such as Belvin-Buchannan Hall where stories tell of a female student who committed suicide, and Elliott Hall which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman who was murdered. Despite these claims, however, most are dismissed as being nothing more than urban legends. Lastly, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum which is located on Sam Houston State University's campus is said to be haunted by the late General Sam Houston, who died of pneumonia at the location in 1863, and whose ghostly figure is allegedly seen and heard throughout the old buildings late at night.
