Hog Alley
"The Ghost Of Dangerfield Newby"

Location Address: Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
Hog Alley in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia is said to be haunted by the ghost of a freed African American slave named Dangerfield Newby, who was killed during a raid to free additional slaves in 1859. Dangerfield Newby was shot in the throat by a local man, then dragged to Hog Alley and savagely beaten, and left to be eaten by pigs. Ever since, pedestrians walking along Hog Alley have reported encountering a tall, shadowy figure with a large gaping wound to the neck, believed to be the late Dangerfield Newby. The Harper Museum in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia was constructed as a private residence by a wealthy couple named Robert and Rachel Harper in 1782. Although Robert and Rachel Harper both died tragically before construction was finished on the home, their spirits are allegedly seen by guests wearing clothing from the late 1700's.
