The Devil's Backbone Tavern

The Devil's Backbone Tavern in Canyon Lake, Texas was constructed in 1937 over an old Native American settlement. It is also rumored to have been the site of a skirmish during the American Civil War. The tavern is rumored to be haunted by a number of unidentified ghosts and apparitions whose identities and reasons for remaining at the location are unknown. "The Devil's Backbone"

The Devil's Backbone refers to a scenic stretch of roadway consisting of US Highway 281, and Texas Farm Road 12, Farm Road 32, Farm Road 165, and Farm Road 2325. Motorists and locals living along the roadway often report encountering the apparitions of a group of Confederate Army soldiers riding on horseback, as well as a Native American man herding cattle, and a ghostly woman and child.
