Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden
"Los Angeles County Botanic Garden"
Coordinates: 34.142896°, -118.053255°
Location Address: 301 N. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, California
The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden in Arcadia, California is a 127-acre botanical garden that contains a wide assortment of exotic plant life from across the world, as well as several state historic sites and other exhibits. The land was first settled by pioneers in the early 1800's, and was home to a large population of indigenous tribespeople for hundreds of years due to its abundance of naturally occurring water sources. In 1839 the Hugo Reid Adobe was constructed, which was sold several times over the years before finally being purchased by Los Angeles County and the state of California for use as a botanic garden in 1947. The original Hugo Reid Adobe still stands and was designated as a California State Historical Landmark in 1940. The Queen Anne Cottage located within the arboretum was constructed by a wealthy businessman named Elias Jackson Baldwin (commonly referred to by the nickname, "Lucky Baldwin") between 1879 and 1886, and is rumored to be haunted. Guests over the years have reported witnessing the apparition of a man believed to be the late Lucky Baldwin, who died in March of 1909 from tuberculosis, as well as the spirit of a woman believed to be Mr. Baldwin's fourth wife, Lillie, who later died of cancer at the house. Others report hearing the sounds of disembodied voices and moans coming from within the Queen Anne Cottage, or feeling a strange presence. Many also claim to witness the spirits of a number of unidentified men and women whose restless apparitions allegedly wander the vast botanic gardens at night.

Location Address: 233 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California
The Derby Restaurant in Arcadia, California was originally constructed in 1922 as the Proctor Tavern, which catered to guests from the nearby Santa Anita Park thoroughbred racetrack. The location is decorated with a variety of horse racing memorabilia and now serves as an upscale restaurant. In 1938 the Derby Restaurant was purchased by the Canadian thoroughbred racing legend George Woolf, nicknamed "The Iceman" due to his uncanny ability to remain cool under extreme pressure. He became internationally famous after riding Seabiscuit to victory in the 1938 Pimlico Special, but was killed tragically in January of 1946 after being thrown from a horse while racing at the nearby Santa Anita Park at the age of 35. Ever since, guests and employees at the Derby Restaurant have reported feeling the ghostly presence of a man believed to be the late George Woolf, who allegedly remains to watch over his beloved restaurant. Some employees have even claimed to catch a glimpse of the man's spirit seated in his favorite stool at the end of the bar, where he would often sit keeping watch over the restaurant. Many also report experiencing other paranormal phenomena at the historic restaurant, such as portraits on the wall being unexpectedly rearranged, lights turning on and off by themselves, and the disembodied sounds of a horse's hooves galloping through the streets outside.
