El Chupacabra

El Chupacabra is a legendary creature which is featured prominently in Southwestern and Latin American folklore. The creature first made news headlines in 1995 after eight sheep were found dead, and mysteriously drained of blood on a farm in Puerto Rico. Ever since, large numbers of similar encounters have been reported throughout Central America and the southwestern United States. El Chupacabra is often described as resembling a large, hairless dog or bear with large spines, or other times as a large, lizard-like monster. Some have even speculated that El Chupacabra is somehow of alien origin due to the seemingly surgical precision with which the monster is able to drain the blood of its prey. In some cases, its prey are also shown to have had organs removed with similar precision. The name "Chupacabra" when translated to English means "goat sucker," due to the creature's tendency to prey mostly on livestock and other easy prey. Additional research is currently in progress.
